Questions before you book

What should I send with my request?

Send the cemetery name, its address, the plot details and a short note about the work you need. Clear photos help show the stone, its base and the ground around it. Include any rules you have received from the cemetery. These details help us review the job before we quote.

How is the price for my job set?

The price depends on the stone, its size and state, the plot access and the work you choose. Some services have published price ranges, while others need a review first. Ask for an itemized quote so you can see the agreed tasks. Do not assume that delivery, permits and setting are all the same charge.

Can you help in New York or Washington?

Yes. Monument Services Group accepts intake in both New York and Washington, with service confirmed per cemetery. We coordinate with the cemetery for the work agreed in your quote. Our Washington location is in Tukwila; New York uses our Northeast network. Share the actual cemetery address so we can check the local steps for your job.

Do I need to check cemetery rules first?

Yes. Each cemetery can set rules for the plot, the stone and who may work on the grounds. Ask its office for the current written rules and share them with us. Our permit assistance covers forms and coordination where needed. Approval must be settled before work starts; a quote does not replace cemetery consent.

What record will I receive after the work?

Photo reports are part of our stated service process. They let you see the work without being at the plot in person. Ask which views will be included for your job, and keep the agreed scope with the final photos. If you have a question about a detail, refer to that scope when you contact us.

Check official New York cemetery consumer guidance and Washington cemetery rules and resources. The cemetery must confirm the requirements for your plot.

History

Woodlawn National Cemetery is located in Elmira, NY, in Chemung County.

In 1861, the town was both a training and marshalling center for Union soldiers during the Civil War.

As trainees were eventually assigned to military units and the barracks emptied, the federal government used the buildings as a prisoner-of-war camp.

Originally known as Camp Rathbun, and designated Camp No. 3 during its existence from summer 1864 until the end of the war, this camp housed approximately 12,000 Confederate enlisted men.

Confederate POWs were transported by rail from locations such as Point Lookout, MD, and Old Capital Prison in Washington, DC, to Elmira.

“The deep cleaning and leveling completely transformed the family plot. The before-and-after photos were incredible, and now the stone looks like it did when it was first installed. We’re very grateful for the care they showed.”

Emily R.

“We added dates and a portrait to an existing monument through their engraving team. Everything matched perfectly and was done right at the cemetery. Communication was clear from start to finish.”
